On the Road Again!

Well. I did. However, unlike the driver above I drove and parked safely. The eye test came up with no problems on my distance. Considering I had my cataracts done in 2022 and I have plastic lenses they bloody well ought to be.... They noticed my reading needed lens. They reckoned +2.75 lenses.  However,  I have been using +1.5 budget readers for ages. The problem with them is that although I can get four pairs for £7, they don't last forever. I usually have a pair in every room at home, including the loo, plus in the car and the van. I ordered some more today! Of course +1.5!

I did!! These are the £19 readers I picked up today. I can see clearly to use my phone! Specsavers £19 readers... But, there's still that "fishbowl" sensation putting them on whereas the £1.99 B&M glasses work as well about 10% of the cost and there's no "fishbowling"...... or B&M £1.99 readers...?

I had the eye-test at Specsavers in Ashford. As expected distance vision is really good and I do need reading glasses. I went through the entire process and chose some £19 frames with lenses. Earlier as we killed a bit of time, we went in B&M and I tried on a few pairs of their £1.99 readers.  The 1.25 strength seemed to work okay and I could read the smallest print on the test chart. Job done. Whilst I wait for the Specsavers pair to be made and arrive in store the B&M's will do. They will be a good backup pair and maybe ones I take when on the bike - for reading when I get somewhere.... I will try them out this afternoon watching Latics on iFollow.

Into week 3 since it was done on 7th February.  The drops that I have been using have dropped to two drips each of the maxitrol (from four) and bromfenac per day. So far I have had no problems apart from needing glasses to read small print. As my left eye wasn't as bad and yet to be done, I can use my current reading glasses. At least that eye can read clearly still. Once the left is done and theoretically both eyes should be the same I can get some new reading glasses! The current pair were from the £29 range at Specsavers. It's a shame to waste a good frame.

Back in September at my last eye test at Specsavers in Folkestone, the optician recommended me for surgery to remove the cataract. I hadn't expected much so soon but this week I had a letter arrive with an appointment for the job to be done. In to the clinic one day, Saturday in February,  to look at it, then if all is good it will be removed the next day. I don't think it is bad enough to remove yet. It hardly affects my day to day life, just the occasional blurry vision in that eye. Fingers crossed.

This morning was a visit to Specsavers.  It's over a year since I last went where I ended up with computer glasses that might fit in Elton John's collection. I wasn't intending buying glasses but simply wanted my scheduled eye test. The optician did all the checks and decided that my cataract was getting thicker  It affects my right eye and makes it difficult to focus and get my prescription right. She said we should fill in the form and she would refer me to the health authorities. To be honest at the moment it doesn't affect my day to day vision at all, a little blurry on occasions.  With Covid around it could be years before I get seen. 

Specs is short for spectacles not specifications. Gradually I have noticed that at work I have to lean forward ire to be able to work on my laptop. Reading glasses are totally useless as they are set at a distance ideal for reading a book in your hand.  The screen on my laptop is further away than that but not in the range of my distance glass prescription I need for driving and riding. So, £55 invested with Specsavers and hopefully the problem of blurred working will be sorted.

They seemed better looking in the shop.  For me they are a bit too " Elton John " and they have turned out to be useless for the computer. Once I got used to them, reading my kindle or other printed matter they are okay, but not for the computer screen!

The last time I had an eye-test was two years ago and it was at Tesco in Ashford. I went mad and bought a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses with prescription lenses and a pair of Oakley clear classes.  Cost a fortune but two years later they are fine and maybe even still "fashionable". I don't think that Ray-Ban Wayfarers have even been unfashionable! Ray-Ban Wayfarer RB5814 Oakley OX8026 Currency So today I went to Specsavers in Folkestone for my bi-annual check-up.  As expected I need reading glasses.  Reading the screen at work has become a little more difficult without added blinking and concentrating.  I have had to up the font size on my Kindle too! Claire chose a nice pair for me in the £69 range.  They will be delivered next Saturday. Watch this space.  At least I'll be able to see it more clearly....
