Asus Nexus 7

Don't ever complain that your latest 2025 phone or tablet is slow. I was going through the "man drawer" and came across the Nexus 7 and an Amazon Fire 7. Both of these have been in the drawer for ages. I charged them both, turned the Nexus on and was almost instantly reminded what it was like to be taken back to the 2010's decade and how we didn't realise then, how bloody slow everything was!!! Everything is very slow. Once connected to the WiFi it still takes a while. There are loads of apps, the play store showed 37 upgrades only. Sadly, some of the apps that I haven't got have packed up. For instance, Fuelly. The app on the Nexus was superb. The latest is rubbish. But now the old installed app doesn't work at all. This blog was written on the Nexus 7 and finished on the Blogga Pro app from the Android Play Store.

Amazon Fire 7

So my on and off love hate relationship with the Fire 7 continues. I bought it as a Christmas present to myself to replace my ancient Kindle that had decided enough was enough and it refused to charge and when it did, it would no longer connect to the internet to download new books. Generally the Fire has been okay. But. It has a major fault that despite contacting Amazon for assistance is still happening. Not all the time, but enough to be very annoying. I can download a book from my library. I can read it. The next time I want to carry on reading it shows in the folder, but errors saying I don't have the right to read it. I have to delete and re-download. Annoying at home with WiFi but not good sitting on a train to work! The other problem is that the book simply disappears from the downloaded folder and we go through above again. Oddly, re-downloaded books 99% of the time remember where I was when last read! After three occasions this month already I am ...

Google Nexus 7

Along with the rest of my possessions the Nexus 7 is back from a trip to the US, Arizona to be exact. With the aid of an OTG cable previously bought to use with the Hudl a few years back it is easy to display pictures from the camera or the SD card from the camera on the 7. A far easier solution was to buy a Samsung camera with its own wifi connection.  There is an app that will work on iOS and Android and uses a local wifi link to transfer photos.

Google Nexus 7

After the trials and tribulations of the Hudl last year, this year I went a step further and bought a Nexus 7. Again powered by Android. This one (for my sins) is a factory reconditioned model despite this upgrade not being out that long. The drawback against the Hudl is that there is no micro-sd slot to enhance the disk space and I am stuck with the 32GB onboard memory. Although compared to the iPhone 5S I currently have the apps seem smaller and run more quickly. The problem is that many of the iPhone apps I use aren't replicated for Android. The unit is very well made. It feels more substantial and better made than the Hudl.  The screen colours are far better and the operating system seems quicker. As it is Google a lot of the things, like Blogger, are available. The app though isn't that good and has many shortcomings whereas the iPhone app is far better. Work that one out! Let's see how we get on with this!
