On the Road Again!

I bought this phone, Motorola "Moto G50" as a retirement and birthday present to me.  I am not in the market for a £1000+ Apple or Samsung cell/mobile phone.  I haven't seen the need to "Keep up with the Jonesy's" for quite a few years. What made the decision was that my Honor 9 Lite was beginning to get a little buggy and slowing down quite badly. Whether this was the last upgrade of Huawei's version of Android I have no idea. Why the Moto G50?  I wanted a decent "budget" smartphone and after looking at a lot of reviews and then at the G50 in the Tesco Mobile shop I plumped for it.   Of course, I was beaten to the punch by Claire. She has a very old but premium priced OnePlus 5T. It has plenty of RAM available and the onboard storage isn't too stressed unlike my 32gb Honor. Want a smart watch but don't want to pay hundreds of pounds for something that will be attractive to street robbers? Then buy a cheap Chinese one from eBay or Amazon. I just have.  Copying Claire! She bought one earlier in the week. Under £25 and it does everything that we want. It tells the time and measures steps and activity. And it looks good. It was a bit of a pig to set up on her OnePlus 5T, but then again everything is.  After some googling we got it working. I ordered one too. It arrived yesterday whilst we were out walking the dog. Setting up on my Honor 9 Lite was child's play.   Blurry pic!! It syncs easily enough and looks quite good. I like hands on my watches and so changed the face from the many free options available. The accompanying app need Android v5 or iOS 9 or above to work. It's easy to download from App Store or Play Store. Time will tell how good it is.

An update on the Poppy Run Walk 2020 with a little under 4.5 days left before we call it a day. At this rate I will have finished and we still be waiting to see whether Biden or Trump POTUS. So as of 15:45 on 6th November the total for October and November is 125.98 miles as recorded by my Honor 5 band in conjunction with the Huawei Health app on my Honor 9 Lite phone. Fitness is what it is all about innit?  And gadgets that we don't really need but can tell us what we are actually doing all help. Don't they? As the proud owner of a hinky Chinese smart phone, an Honor 9 Lite, I decided that if I was going to enter into the world of the fit-bit (not a trademark) I might as well get one that would work with my phone.   Enter the Honor 5 Band. It was quite a lot cheaper than the trademark fit-bit and seems to do what I need.  It links with Huawei Health app automatically with the click of a link in the app.   And here it is. It has a blood pressure monitor as well as a sleep monitor.  Reviews on the tech websites give it a good rating. Plus for the kiddy in us, we can change the "watch face" to many others as we see fit and the mood takes us. I'll see how it works and update at a later date.

The phone arrived on Friday about 4pm.  Reggie as usual greeted the postman with his usual furore and loud barking.  Once in the house he managed to grab the box and puncture two holes in it. Luckily the Honor box with phone and accessories was undamaged.    Once home I opened the box and the phone looks good. From looking at it you would never place it in the budget category. it is blue but not a vivid as it looked on the computer screen. It came with 56% charge and so I hooked it up and began to set it up. The nano SIM and Micro SD card from the S5 fitted in very easily and we were off.  All the screens are Huewei labelled. It took about 15 minutes to set up and then it asked me to install some software on the old phone to copy apps and data across.  That took about 20 minutes. Whilst I have gone back to using the Galaxy S5 for a week or so I have also been looking at reviews for budget smartphones.  All I use the phone for is internet browsing (news. football scores etc), info on places to visit and what's there, the usual stuff, plus Google maps, Social Media and of course Blogger!   With the S6 being sealed and playing up again with charging and the sudden loss of battery - how many phones with no apps running go from 85% to 0% in a few hours - and the battery inaccessible, I went back to the old (worthless!) S5.   It is a revelation after the S6.  Much slower to charge, quite slow to open apps but a positive side is that it has a memory enhancing micro SD card slot.  Standing in Starbuck's waiting for the app to open is embarrassing when everyone is held up behind or you are blocking one till waiting for the payment page to open!!!   Yes, I know.
