On the Road Again!

Anyone know how this breaks any rules? It's a photo of the place I was reviewing....  Reggie and I were having a walk and Maps came up with places I had been. One of them that day was the Leas Cliff Hall.  This is a photo of it from the outside.  My review, that can't be read or edited, was based on the café that's open everyday and in the evening when there's a concert on.

Balcony seats have been released this week for us old people that can't (or won't) stand for the (entire) concert. It will be a bopping night welcoming The Dualers full band back to the Leas Cliff Hall. Maybe time for a polo shirt and DM's?

Traditionally, the Illegal Eagles play Folkestone Leas Cliff Hall in February.  This year, or rather 2025, the date has been snaffled by the Marlowe in Canterbury. So instead Folkestone with host them in July.  I have tickets bought early to get a decent central view.  This year we were to the side.

I was a bit late seeing the advert for the group's annual visit to Folkestone and so the seats we have aren't as good as previous years. Which is a shame. But the show will be as good as ever I expect.  Date for the diary April 5th.

It's become an annual event, going to the LCH to watch the Illegal Eagles.  This tribute band are superb. Their vocal harmonies are a mirror for the original Eagles.  This year the ticket email arrived and by the time I got online the tickets were almost sold out.  Not wanting to miss out I ended up booking two tickets in the side block rather than our usual central seats. I saw that the Zakk Wylde ban "Black Label Society" were going to be touring and actually at the Leas Cliff Hall in June. It's not the sort of music that would interest Claire and so I bought one ticket.  I haven't listed to much of there metal output so have been catching up with albums that are free (or included!) in my Amazon Prime. So far so good. Looking forward to a ride down there on Vera for an evening of "biker metal"!

The band were back at the Leas Cliff Hall in Folkestone. This is the first time since the pandemic. Unlike most tribute bands they don't try and look like the Eagles but they do a great job of sounding like them! Another great show.

What better way to spend a cold winter's evening in Folkestone. The Illegal Eagles at the Leas Cliff Hall. Once again in February! Another superb performance from what has to be the best tribute band in the world. They don't try to dress or look like the Eagles but can sing like the original band members.  Each of them accomplished musicians in their own right. I didn't take any photos this time as I was more interested at listening to the music. Back in 2021?   

When we saw them back in February in Folkestone they said they would be back.  Usually the tickets go on sale soon afterwards but this year it seemed we were going to miss out.  An email from ATG last week letting me know that they were going to be on again... Tickets bought. 

Superb again. The Illegal Eagles - six piece tribute band don't try and look like The Eagles but the sound.  Wow. Close your eyes and it could be the real thing from those far off days of the 70's and 80's.

May 19th 2018. What else could be happening in the country today? The FA Cup Final at Wembley.  And. Oh yes. The small matter of a Royal Wedding.  But for me it was an evening of "new country" from The Shires and fellow non Americans in support Sinead Burgess from Oz and Andy Brown from Liverpool. Andy Brown & Band Both supports were really good and warmed us up for the main event. The Shires played a mixture of tracks from the first two albums and all the new one. Clearly The Shires Damned baldy headed bloke!!!! In the end  - a superb night.

Last week I was sent a flyer for this tribute band with the offer of 2 for 1 tickets. Why not. And what a great time we had. The band are excellent musicians and sound very Plant-like! Their new set, tonight the first of the 2018 tour, was in Folkestone. Playing a track from each of the original was a good idea and I was only in the dark with a couple of them. Great night.

And it is.  Tonight at the Leas Cliff hall we see the Illegal Eagles take to the stage. Another tribute act that sound like the original but make no attempt to be lookalikes. And all the better for it. Superb as usual. 

Another night of fantastic music at the Leas Cliff Hall. Slim Jim Phantom and his band kicking off the night. Rockabilly from the former (or is that current?) Stray Cats. Really good. Playing hits from their 40 years on the road  plus selections off the new album  called "Evil Spirits" - out on April 13th.  I have pre-ordered it on Amazon. Unfortunately, my phone was running low on battery power and it decided that to actually focus on the stage closer up than the pic above was a no-no!

Simply marvellous. Think Floyd . As a tribute band they let the music if Pink Floyd take centre stage. Unlike some tributes they don't try to look lie the band they are copying.  Nor do they try to be soundalikes.  But saying that the musicianship is excellent. I knew most of the tracks they played and once they hit "Dark Side of the Moon" and "Wish You Were Here" I was at my era again. Fantastic. Although I don't like too much use of the mobile phone at events I did take a couple of short videos. We have often been to concerts  since Claire and I met back in 1999.  Most of them I have to admit at my bidding it has to be said. Some have been less than exciting for her, but have actually been very good and she enjoyed the spectacle.  From the Download Festival (where I was lucky to have won £300 worth of tickets) to Motorhead and of course, last week, Metallica. Motorhead were probably at the lower interest level. The last time we saw them the support was The Damned.  And it is The Damned we are going to see in February at the Leas Cliff Hall in Folkestone.  Only a few miles from home.  No travel to London. First up in November is a return to the O2 to see Deep Purple. A farewell tour?  A gig free December leads us into the New Year and  Think Floyd at the Leas Cliff Hall. Another tribute band th...

Maybe it is something that comes with getting older, correct me if I am wrong, that country music becomes more interesting?   Although it's always been there I have only toyed with the music of Willie Nelson etc.   Lately we have been toying with George Strait and Zac Brown.  Some really decent stuff. Both have massive back catalogues but we have started with recent productions.   And we come to The Shires. A duo from Beds and Herts. Two shire counties to the north of London. They may have got their name from that basis?   That two English singers can write music that is accepted in the US and the heartlands of country is amazing.   They are on in Folkestone at the Leas Cliff Hall at the end of April and we are going to be there.   Looking forward to it
