New Hearing Aids

Image
It's a just over a week since we went to Audiology at Folkestone Royal Victoria hospital, and i had another hearing test. It managed to mix the heat with claustrophobia sitting in the little box. The result was pretty much the same as back in 2022 and again when we saw the private guy in Hythe.  My right ear almost useless. The solution from the private guy was a crossover system where the right ear aid Bluetooths to one in the left ear. Then it seems to the brain that you can hear through both ears. Magic. The private solution would be between £3000 and £3500. 😵‍💫 So I opted to wait for the NHS. That was last Wednesday. A time in the hotbox trying to hear the beeps. The result is I now have the Stretta crossover system. Once you have the app on the phone it connects to...

Hospital (or not) Again 4

Still waiting for two NHS appointments. 1) After the last trip up to SDEC, where they took more blood,  I was told that things would continue after the ultrasound appointment. And that's what I am waiting for. Although when we were at the hospital they weren't sure what the problem was/is.  So it was a surprise to login to my NHS account and see that the doctor entered "Suspected Hepatitis"! How? 2) Audiology.  Had a visit to them to tell me that the aid I had been given was totally useless. That was June 3rd.  Still waiting for an appointment. happyearshearing.com

Hidden Hearing Test - July 22nd 2026

Image
I cancelled the appointment with Hidden Hearing a few weeks ago. When I was there the last time, the hearing test pretty much proved that my right ear is almost useless.  Their idea was a cross over system that would mean an aid in my right ear would connect by Bluetooth to another in my left ear and trick my brain into thinking I was hearing through both ears.   At £3500 it's a lot of money when my right ear would still be useless. On June 3rd I had an audiology appointment at the William Harvey. I last had an NHS test in 2021.  The audiologist showed me the graphs for both ears. The right showed the same drop off as Hidden Hearing. She also said that the aid I had was a waste of time and shouldn't have been prescribed at all. Imagine a line on the graph that looks like a side view of a ski jump.... Only certain frequencies make it through. When I listen music with my pods or full over ear cans, barely anything can be heard through the right, although it...

Getting to see your Doctor is almost as difficult as getting to have tea with the Queen. In the end I wrote a letter and posted it through the door.  Monday that was. That said, Tuesday,  a phone call to the surgery, after 1030am, elicited a response that they hadn't heard from the hospitals about my echocardiogram nor about my hearing test and MRI. Nothing arrived here or the surgery. As the latter was in May I was a bit pissed. I called the hospital and eventually got though to audiology. They were closed all day but call back between 10 and 12 or 14 and 16 hours. I did. Wednesday.  The lady said that they had written to the surgery, cc me, on 17th May. Before the MRI. I said I was still deaf in that ear and needed the device fitted. Now booked in on August 16th. She'll write to me. Don't know if that will ever arrive but have it in my Google calendar. As for MRI? Who knows. They didn't have the result two months after it was done.

Mutton Jeff

Deaf. Cockney rhyming slang. Not technically a cockney as I was born slightly West of Westminster Bridge. The view of the Houses of Parliament from St Thomas' must have been inspiring for my mum as I ruined her Christmas. Back to being mutton. No change in my right ear. Have to wait until April 4th when I go to the surgery again! 😖
