On the Road Again!

A bit late this month and not all the mileages have come in but here we are anyway. There is one month to go, or to be precise there are 16 days left and then it is all over and done with. Updated on the 15th November when the last two entrants sent in their mileages.

Had to make a change to add a latecomers miles for September.  

When the Register was first created two years ago I tossed my hat in the ring. The job eventually went to Terry Ryan. Terry recently stepped down and I put my name forward again. The BMW Club asked me to do the job f or the next 12 months. Okay I don't have experience of riding the Long Way Round. I am not an actor or his mate. I am not called Sanders. But I do have over 25 years of organising rides and holiday trips for the Suzuki Owners Club. As well as the Invader Rally, I have about 125 events to my name. Over the last two weekends I have organised and led two successful runs to France for the SOC and around Kent for the GS Register. So where do we go from here?

Had a good run across on the A25. It used to be scenic but not so much traffic. When I lived in Camberley and when I had just joined the SOC, we used to ride across the A25 from Guildford to Sevenoaks and then up to Brands Hatch. I'm sure there were more open limited sections in those days. Yesterday, there seemed to be too much hatching in the centre of the road and all too many 40 and 50 limits. It didn't stop the weekend-warriors overtaking us and the cars across solid double white lines. These guys are so much better riders than us. It's amazing none of them are in BSB or even racing at club level. Perhaps that would mean actually being able to ride? We had a bit of a detour around Shere before we found the ford. I was hoping to get a picture of Paul B and Ian G coming through, but a Freelander came along the narrow exit track and put paid to that. Day 3 saw us up early and breakfasted and out to get to the Liverpool Arms for the BMW Club TT Natter Meet. When we arrived we saw that Peter Lewis, who lived on the Island, was there and had the banner up already. Gradually, people started to arrive and soon there must have been around 40 bikes parked up alongside the pub and in the car park . Thanks to Peter especially for his help on the day. We left about 1.45pm for a run into Douglas essentially for a look round and a look for Tesco . We didn't find Tesco but did buy stuff for lunch and for tomorrow when we will also need to be out early to get a good view of the Senior TT . All in all, I thought the Club meeting went off very well and I tried to natter to as many people as I could. We got back to where we are staying at about 5pm for a lie down before setting off again for dinner and to look for an optimal viewing spot for tomorrow. Since the original post the IMTC meeting will be held elsewhere and is not being hosted by myself. A relief I guess as I'm not going to be an active member for much longer. There is no change with the BMW Club Natter-Meet at Baldrine. All I need is some divine guidance to make sure it works.

The BMW Club Committee have given the green light to the Club having a meeting on the Isle of Man during the Centenary TT in June 2007. I have already booked the Liverpool Arms, Baldrine between Onchan and Laxey for the morning of the 7th June 2007 - Thursday. I thought it was best to have it on a day when there was no racing. What I now need are volunteers to assist on the day and in the run up to the event. I have a small budget to spend on publicising it here and abroad. Me and my big mouth! Not only have I volunteered to help with a meeting for the IMTC but I stuck my foot in and volunteered to assist the BMW Club as well. So far I’ve not had a lot of help from local members of either club and so it’s a case of check the web for places I know and see what happens… For the BMW Club, I have booked the Liverpool Arms, Baldrine between Onchan and Laxey for the morning of the 7th June 2007 - Thursday.
