On the Road Again!

So a few months ago I  took the Nikon with me to an event and started to shoot some photos. As it is so ancient it will only accept a 2GB SD card. I guess it was state of the art back in 2005! If you click on the tags you can see the history of my ownership of this camera. I kinda became the adoptive father of quite a few used and discarded digital cameras!! I usually copy the pictures from the SD card to my laptop using a defunct but perfectly servicable app called Picasa 3. Google as usual failed to support the app. It works perfectly on WIN10. Once on the laptop filed  in folders by date of shooting, I backup all folders to a 1TB external harddrive. Then I format the card in the camera. However, on this day the camera refused to work with the lens switch set to auto. Sliding to manual, the shutter fired.  No matter what I did, it refused to shoot in Auto on the lens and the body. Until I read some adverts for used cameras online, I didn't have a clue how to check the number of times the shutter had been activated. Then I saw on this website how to find out. If you knew it was held in the EXIF data, then take a bow! I stuck a picture taken yesterday, the last one on this camera.... and.... So despite being over 17 years old it's hardly been used. As well as this I bought a backup battery. Unfortunately finding a new genuine Nikon battery is impossible and even searching on Google doesn't produce many options.  In the end I had to go for a "used" one off eBay.  It arrived today and was charged. It took around two hours.   To back that up for £8 I have bought another from Amazon Prime, this time a pattern make and we'll see if that is any good.  I plan you use the D50 a little more.  It's a decent camera and as a "bin find" it works very well. Hurrah it's vacation time. Time to put the little pocket Sony Cybershot away in the drawer and get the battery charged for the D50.  Plus of course get all the pix I may want to keep off the 2gb SD card. Then format the SD card. I use Picasa3, discontinued by Google but still a good way to get photos off the cameras onto the laptop. Nikon D50 The camera is setup to do bracketing. I couldn't remember how to turn it off and had to Google!  It is actually an item in one of the menus.   The nearest I could get to the D50 was this little item. The D50 menu isn't that extensive though. The battery charger is a "quick charger" but even so it takes about three hours to charge a half empty battery. For a camera that was made almost 15 years ago is works well. Has no discernable problems and I don't mind taking it out in the rain.

I have this D50 to use. It's not worth much on eBay but it takes pretty reasonable pictures. If only there was a firmware update so that it would take a bigger SD card than the 2GB maximum it currently takes.
