Book Review: Dark Sacred Night by Michael Connelly

Dark Sacred Night by Michael Connelly My rating: 5 of 5 stars As soon as I saw this book appear on the Kindle list I had to have it. I am a commuter reader. I have an hour on the train in the morning and again in the evening. I have to admit I have read all the Bosch books and have seen all five series on Amazon Prime. A bit of a junkie but with limits to how much I'll spend... I wasn't disappointed. The cold case "hobby" stories mixed with Ballard working live cases goes together well. In his old age Bosch is starting to make mistakes and stepping even further over the boundary. The only thing I thought was missing was some closure on the SFPD corrupt cop stream and Harry's future.... View all my reviews

Book Review: The Late Show (Renée Ballard, #1; Harry Bosch Universe, #29)

With Harry Bosch heading towards retirement, even from his part-time volunteer detective role in San Fernando, we need a new cop to take over the baton.  And Michael Connolly brings us Renée Ballard. The Late Show by Michael Connelly My rating: 4 of 5 stars I had read the first few chapters as they are appended to the end of the last few Bosch and Haller books and so when I was finished with them I downloaded this one to my Kindle. I guess with Bosch getting close to his pension that we needed a new character to fill the void. Ballard looks to be an inspired choice. At first I have to admit that she isn't all that likeable. In fact she comes over as the PITA very common in many US TV crime'/cop programmes. Gradually you warm to her but even by the end of the book, and she has solved the murders she is still pretty unlikable. I guess as her character develops in future books then we might see a change. As usual the book is up to Connolly's fine writing and I...

Bosch

I have read all the books in the series by Michael Connolly, in order, from the start to the current end. So when I saw that it had been made for TV I had to watch it. Unfortunately it is on Amazon Prime. Luckily due to a screw up I got stuck with a year's subscription and so I have been trying to watch it on my tablet. Since getting a smart TV I have been able to watch on a big screen. I'm on the first series and now see there's a second! Prime runs out in a week. Renew or not? http://www.michaelconnelly.com/series/ Update 31/12/2017 Decided to take the hit and stick with Prime.  Amazon has so many TV series that won't make it to the "normal" channels and my Samsung Smart TV can show these programs in full 54", then it was worth sticking with Prime for another year.
