On the Road Again!

A little disappointed in this app.  I entered way-points at Westenhanger Station and again once I arrived at work to see a journey that was about 75 miles long with three way-points marked. Nada. It looks as though starting the app on the phone and letting it find your location, see pic on left, entering a note and then clicking "Update Now" doesn't work. It seems a shame that it doesn't work so I am going to log a call, there is an email address on the " i " page in the app and see if something else needs to be done? After a few goes I sent an SMS to the number with the co-ords that the app had provided. When I logged into the website from the laptop, there were about 6 new waypoints, all at the same time and slightly different places to what I had sent in the SMS. I used this website to track trips I was on back in 2009. Then it fell out of favour for me as having to SMS the gps position was a bit of a chore. The idea was to be able to let my family know where I was when I was away and keep track of where I had been. The trip on POI66 is called an album.  You can only have only one album live at any time. iPhone Screenshot With the rise of the iPhone there are many similar apps available that make sending an SMS to the POI66 website a little redundent, however, POI66 now has an app. Firstly I logged onto the website to create an "album" to add to and then downloaded and installed the app. so far so good. Using the instructions of the website I found how to set the app up. There are a few strange bita that I didn't understand at first, then most of them are explained. After a week of almost perfect biking weather it was a surprise to wake up and find that we had fog. To make sure we arrived at the Shuttle on time (if not early!) we got up early and were ready for the off. The day before I had filled to bike to make sure we had loads of petrol as the estimated mileage for today was about 160 miles. By the time we had climbed out of Hythe on Blackhorse Hill w e had also climbed out of the fog and the sky was blue and it was sunny. We met the rest of the group there over a coffee and then motored around for the 0920 train. The train group totalled 15 and one, Ian, was on Sea France and planning to meet us at Ardres . The crossing was smooth (!) as expected and we ventured out with me at the head. We had a few GPS's with us and all should have been following the route I had sent out earlier in the week. Okay, so I copied Whatton from the UKGSers group and signed up to this site as a bit of fun. It means that when you are away, people can see where you are. To update your position you simply (!) need a mobile phone and a GPS location! The one that attracted my attention and made me think about using it to log my trips was the UKGSers SUYB Trip to Morocco this month. In fact as I type they are about half way through their trip. My first "go" will be at the weekend for the SOC Kent trip across to Belgium for the Wipers Times trip to the Ypres Salient. Should be a bit of fun!
