On the Road Again!

Restoring the older (Ohrex 2 - see explanation at the foot of the page) unit with the backup taken on the 4th March at the start of all this, the 2023Q1 maps, worked a treat. It fired up immediately and worked. This model was superseded over a year ago when it came up with several faults. Oddly it works now! So I repeated the trick with the latest unit, Ohrex 3 (!), and  of course works with the last year's maps and exe. So now I have two functioning satnavs with early last year's maps etc. I updated my call to Ohrex Support to tell them what had happened. The reply was quite long winded and assumes that the 7gb download that took hours and a few WIN10 "resumes" has worked. 1. Go to NaviConfig . If not visible on start-up screen go into Settings and scroll right once and select NaviConfig there. 2. Tap in the box with 3 dots and screen should show a box with Resident Flash 3. Tap the Resident Flash box twice you should see a new box called NAVI 4. Tap NAVI box twice y...

After a total of five hours of copying the current 2023Q1 files to the hard drive on the laptop.  Then following the instructions to download the latest 2023Q2 zip file and then extract it.  Again I have formatted the unit and then another few hours of it slowly copying the zipped folders to the unit. Usually all it needs is for the unit to be powered off and an one it's sorted.  This time it was knackered. It was a total of over five hours to go from the last year's upgrade to a non working sat nav! I have reported the problem to the support at Ohrex.  See what they have to say.  In the meantime I have dug out one of the satnavs that was failing and have tried again. This time to I have formatted it and have copied the 2023Q1 folder. It might work. Currently it's taking taken half an hour at at 27%! More later!

At last. Another upgrade to the maps and the application. It is the usual hassle to download the massive zip file from their Google Drive and then unzip to the laptop hard drive.  On the older Dell it failed over and over. Tried it on the newer but still old Dell and it worked. This is actually the third unit I have! Each time there's a failure they send a new one! Pretty good going for a £69 product. This version had a Google Local Search button. An email to Ohrex Support found that this doesn't work on the unit! The upgrade fixed that. It's gone. 😁  

I have had to log a call with Ohrex support as there is an oddity when the speed camera alerts come up on the screen. In the UK the current speed limit is shown in miles per hour, and likewise in Europe in kilometres. Above. Here we are on a road with a 60 mph limit. But, when it detects that we are in the range of a speed camera the limit shows in kilometres! On the picture above, under the icon of a camera, is the speed we are actually going alternating with the distance to the camera. Both of those in UK miles/yards. Let's see what the support come up with. Update: For the speed limit, The speed camera change to KPH when you approach them but back to MPH when clear. This is a bug that the tech guys are aware of and are working on a resolution.  Hope this helps and that it is not too inconvenient for you.

What a palaver!! I took a backup of the folders on the Satnav last night and saved them to the laptop. There is only one main folder called NAVI. Secondly, this morning,  I downloaded the massive 6.6gb RAR file from the link Ohrex send in an email with instructions in a PDF.  Simples. After 6 hours I finally managed to get one RAR downloaded, but only after multiple failures when it was part way through. Then I connected the Satnav by the supplied USB cable. It's USB-mini and luckily they supply a cable. Everything I have now is either micro, USB-A or USB-C.  Only then once the RAR file is downloaded and unzipped (7-zip) can you format the satnav drive! Yes format.  Once formatted then use Windows to copy the NAVI folder from the unzipped folder to the satnav. Copying at 2 to 3 mb/sec means that over 7gb unzipped will take a while. Much easier with the TomTom where you connect and let if check for upgrades.... It took way over an hour to copy from the laptop to the u...
