FL19 - Fursday

Really more like Kindle Day and lunch at Denny's. The sausage, bacon and egg with pancakes combo for $5.99 was perfect for lunch. Last full day here and we had a lie-in. A relaxing day before lunch and after. Claire to the pool and me the not so calming afternoon watching Arsenal at Napoli in the Europa League. Albeit on a Spanish language channel as I can't find it in Ingles. Except despite advertising the game last night they are showing Valencia and Villareal. Grrr. And so thoughts turn to dinner. Where tonight? Taco Bell have joined Wendy's on the ❌ list after Claire was "unwell" after the last visit. Wendy's went there in 2014 after the greasiest slimiest burger ever .. In the end we went for a drive up and down the streets of Weston. Firstly to Walgreens for more turmeric to take home and then to Publix. Fried chicken and potato salad.

FL19 - Sat'dy Too

Apartment sorted. We were rather longer than half an hour and we are in a smaller resort called Flamingo One down the road. We are second floor overlooking a small lake. You can just see it through the trees. This actually better than the main site as it is very crowded and in a more quiet area away from the freeway. View from Balcony Once the cases were lugged up we were out again to a Publix. Sadly no beer for gout foot Devall.  And another salad. . Salad from Publix And tomorrow's adventure? Maybe stay locally. We will be due our "usual" visit to the Flamingo Gardens -  https://www.flamingogardens.org  - and it is only a few blocks away. Monday we are off to the Keys.

FL19 - Disney

Yesterday the gout that had started in my right big toe here in 2017 raised its ugly head, or rather toe. The trip to CVS secured some turmeric capsules and I took a couple a few hours apart. I awoke this morning with the swelling much reduced. We had a short trip out to Disney Springs. I didn't want to spoil Claire's holiday but also didn't want to aggravate the gout. I might have got away with one .. Parking in the Orange parking garage and then wandering to the lakeside. We spied the balloon.  We don't go on much so after a coffee at Starbucks we went across.  After a long wait they decided it was too windy to let it go up to the full 400ft and then closed completely. Luckily before we bought a ticket. We decided to take a boat ride around Lake Buena Vista. Quite relaxing too. Once we had done a circuit of the lake we exited towards the shops. In time for the Rainforest Café's volcano eruption. I managed to get two shots. Then I espied the Orlando HD Shop. My rit...

FL19 - Day 6

Image
Is it Tuesday already? It rained last night and rain was forecast for this afternoon. It's coming up to 8pm, and it is raining again. So today has been another not so busy day. I woke up and my foot was swollen again. Gout. I have been taking the pills, one a day, for ages but here we are again. Our drive out was to Celebration. It's not far. It is a planned community and has some nice houses. It seems to have been created as recently as 1994. There didn't seem to be that much to do other than visit a restaurant or coffee shop. We did the latter. In the town centre there was a bike customised to look like a space shuttle. It looked like the ill fated Columbia. A very nice job indeed. After a walk around the lake we set off via CVS (turmeric pills) and Publix (lunch - salad) for the apartment. My foot is so painful I can drive but not walk very far. More Kindle time and then out to get lunch. Fish fingers and chips. Cooking in. And that's it for another day.

FL17 - Day 10

Image
Into double figures now. Day 10. Always the countdown to going home. It must be my age but I am finding a mere 220 mile drive to be tiring. It should be easy. The car is automatic.  Just sit and use two pedals.  It has cruise control to take even that job away from the driver. But. It's the sheer volume of traffic.  The rules of the road that seem to be few and far between.  Overtaking on both sides. Lane discipline that even in India or Vietnam would be sniffed at. Disregard for red lights at junctions... it all adds up to needing 360° vision. Today we had a lie in. The studio has stunning views and it was sunny all day.  A leisurely shower and coffee and then out to brunch.   We both like Perkins or Denny's.  No Perkins around here so Denny's  it was. Light lunch of egg and bacon with a pile of hash browns and a couple of pancakes. Nice. Then to Publix for "stuff". Bagels for breakfast. Pre-prepared salad for dinner. Yum. A bit of time on t...

FL17 - Day 6

Image
Today was a local day. We usually have a few R&R days built in to holidays.  Days to sit about and do nothing. So today it was. A late breakfast and as it was actually sunny... Yes folks.  The Sunshine State is failing to live up to that name. We decided to see if we could find any "old" places. We did find Broadway in Kissimmee as we were on our way to look at the lake called Tohopekaliga. The lake itself was a bit like a swamp and we saw some wading birds picking into the mass of reed and debris washed up close to the edge. You could see it rise and fall as the wind moved the water. We had a short walk and then parked up to have a coffee. We chose Diane's Tea Shop on Broadway.  A mix of tea shop and antiques/junk shop.  Very nice. The chocolate cake came with an offer of a "to go" box. When it arrived I could see why. When it came to leaving there was still half a cake let to go in the box. The car pinged an alarm to say that it needed petrol and clicking ...

FL17 - Day 2

Image
By the time we got up at around 8am the rain had stopped.  The puddles in the car park looked to have been kept topped up during the night. Breakfast at Rodeway Maingate is included. Don't expect a luxury experience though.  With the room rate of $31.99 plus taxes a night you can't really expect free/included anything. The room was decent.  Two large beds. Aircon. Hot water. Free wifi. After bagels and coffee we packed up and let TomTom take us to Silver Lake.  Really just hoping to get access to storage for our cases. In the end unit 236 was ready and so we checked in early. Plenty of time before the football to do some shopping, food, and maybe get lunch. There are only so many times to eat out.  We like to eat in and watch TV.  A chance to unwind and maybe gave a beer. We did a Publix shop and unpacked that. The 3 in 236 denotes 3rd floor.  Luckily in the US ground is 1. So only two flights of stairs to lug everything up. Next we went to lunch. At a...
