On the Road Again!

With it being Easter Sunday we had been unable to secure a day trip with Eurotunnel. We could have had a short stay trip for £94.50. Instead we decided to go with P&O for £34.50.  So to make it to Dover for the 8.25am meant getting up early. It's Sunday after all. So when the alarm went at 5.55am it was a struggle. I needed to be at Dover at least 60 minutes before sailing.   So I was away by 6.25am. The V-Strom starting first prod and we were away. It was foggy on the M20 and A20 but luckily the holdups over the holiday weekend had mostly gone. Getting through French passport controls took around 30 minutes. It would have helped had Dover Port have had some staff on duty to marshal the queues. It was chaos. I met up with fellow travellers in Team Meldrews' members, Phil on his R1250RT and my brother Neill on his K16. We were loaded quite quick, and first on. Cal is investigating the ferry fare through his contacts and it looks as though for the weekend P&O will be looking at abut £40 each. As a quick comparison I had a look at P&O and Eurotunnel on the web just before sending this email (19/03/2015 11:38) -   P&O want £90 and Eurotunnel is £59 for a bike and passenger(s).  All timings to leave around 0730 on the 4th and return 1850 on the 5th July. I guess it is up to the individual to decide which way to travel. I prefer the tunnel and with Tesco Clubcard it is essentially free with the vouchers. If there are some ferry and some Shuttle. I will re-work the gps files and we can look for a suitable meeting place.  I had planned to make a stop on the A26 at the Aire de Rely, about 40 miles form the port for a pee/fag/coffee/other break, and this may be suitable to join up two different groups, i.e. you can't miss it!

I think this is addressed to the group as it currently stands. If anyone knows differently please let me know. As those of you that have been on similar trips before will be aware, I can often obtain good rates for the crossing with P&O, sometimes in conjunction with Ian who works in the Port. This trip is planned for Sat 19 th / Sun 20 th July which will be approaching a “peak” weekend which may mean that we cannot obtain such large discounts as we have on some other occasions but we will probably get a good deal. The worse deal would be “Family and Friends” rates which are 25% below the published rate at time of booking. As it is July there is a slight possibility that concessions may be withdrawn but this is unlikely.  If you wish us to proceed on your behalf and obtain tickets I will require e-mail confirmation along with make of bike and reg number, the bike details are not essential but will speed up check-in on the day.  Assuming that we can obtain an accepta...
