On the Road Again!

Today's run was in an attempt to see the first three waypoints on the list.  One at Littlestone I had glimpsed but had nowhere to park the bike. The second at Greatstone and the third in the churchyard in New Romney. Once again using the Traces of War website for inspiration. I bypassed the Redoubt at Dymchurch again. Nowhere safe to park as the gravel off-road parking was full of cars. A portent of things to come.  It's a hot day and there are beaches all along our coast line..... First stop in Dymchurch itself at St Peter and St Paul Church. I parked outside and took a photo. The road after the church is "private". I made sure I didn't tresspass! Before entering the churchyard to the right on the entrance.  In the end I walked around all the yard until I found a solitary CWGC grave obscured by bushes. It looks as though it in maintained pretty well. I took another of the war memorial outside the church in a little triangle of land bordering the main A259 coast ...

Today is the " Day of Syn " in Dymchurch. I dropped Claire off at 0930 for her shift as volunteer for Guide Dogs UK .  Her spell on the stand is finishing at 1200 and before the parade from the slipway gets to the recreation ground and so traffic might get a bit heavy later. So I thought of the train as an alternative. The Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway runs at the end of our garden and Hythe station is a longish walk from home. As an over-60 I get a concession fare and Reggie will travel free. It will be £9 return. However, Reggie doesn't like the train when it passes our back fence. So I decided that it wasn't worth the gamble that he would get angry and bark all the way! It's twenty minutes each way, So. We drove. The car park at Dymchurch by the Martello was almost empty. A short walk on the beach with Reggie. Need to do exercise to get back to fitness and now I can drive I can take Reggie out. Today was Dymchurch Beach. Parked by the Martello and then had a walk. Hard going as the tide was still going out and the sand was still damp and easy to sink into. This Martello is lived in and we have watched the owners transform it over time into a home. If I won the lottery I might buy one too!! Reggie investigating the shells that wash up. On the tide line today it was crab carnage!
