Motorhome!

Well.  We have thought about it for a long time and then not done anything.  Then a few weeks ago we decided to go and have a look at some at a dealership in Sussex. We liked a few there.  On the way back we called into another one, also in Sussex, in Rye. We had set a budget of £30k max. This would get a decent low mileage van but around 2008/2009 build. We had had a look online at a few local dealers. There are two in Kent but nothing in our price range. We guessed we needed to up the budget to £35k. A few more came into that budget. We saw the 2013 Elddis Majestic at Rye. Went for a look and it started to rain heavily. We went again a few days later and it was still there and dry.  On our third visit I had a test drive and we decided to take the plunge. Deposit paid on March 12th. Collect it in a week or so from now. A bugger that we have the staycation to Devon coming up in May and that we have already paid in full. I might have swallowed losing t...

Elddis Majestic 115 Motorhome

Well we have gone and done it. A third visit in 8 days to look at this unit. We opted for the 2013 Majestic 115. It is the same as the Elddis Autoquest 115 with a few extras. I had a short test drive to see how it handles. Hopefully there is an owner's manual so we can work out how it all works! Because of the lockdowns there has become a shortage of gas cylinders to power the heating and cookers. The van doesn't come with any as the previous owner kept them. It looks as though we will have to look at an LPG conversion. This puts two LPG tanks into the gas bottle storage area that aren't removed and have a filler cap like an LPG fuelled car. It's not cheap but we need to be able to cook and heat the van when away. I took a few photos. And a few inside.

Motorhome? RV?

For many years I have harboured the thoughts of having a motorhome.  But each time we think of getting closer to looking and buying something has come up. What better time is there?  We may be on the verge of a nuclear war with Russia over their illegal and terrible invasion of the Ukraine!  At least We will have spent the saving we have built up! We have set a budget. Unfortunately, it looks as though that budget isn't that high!  There are loads of available options but it does depend on age. I'm not too worried about engines. Most are diesel powered and two litre and above diesel engines will go on forever as long as basic care is taken.   The Mercedes panel vans I drove as a delivery driver (when also a student) had done in excess of 250000 miles. Still on the original engine and gearbox. Admittedly they were restricted to 56mph (!) which was a PITA when in a hurry! The restrictor didn't stop you getting to 56mph just you couldn't go faster! So we have ...
