On the Road Again!

As I was looking through the wardrobe the Oggie jeans fell out and lay at my feet.  "Wear me" they seemed to cry out. So I have. A few rides over the last couple of weeks. If you click on the "labels" below it will take you to previous mentions of these jeans in the blog. They are quite strongly made and they came with armour to fit in the knee and hip pockets sewn into the inside of the jeans.  The coverage of Kevlar isn't as much as the more expensive jeans but covers the areas that you may be expected to slide along the road in the event of a spill. The have a little elastane in the denim and that little give makes them comfortable on the bike when sitting. The knee pockets aren't adjustable and I find when walking that the armour settles a little too low and needs to be pulled up over the knee when the legs are bent. What I don't think I mentioned before is that they have a three button fly instead of a zip! More 501 than YKK! This hasn't proved...

Following an accident many years ago on the GT750 when Claire and I were chuffed up the back by another biker and I was hospitalised after crunching my head on the pavement, it was my legs that came off worse.  My ordinary jeans had not been very tarmac resistant and the scuffing and bruising was pretty bad.   I decided to get some more "biker" jeans and bought a pair of Hood jeans. These are thick denim with an aramid Kevlar lining.  Overall the jeans have done good service. Only once being called into action when I managed to almost write off the Europ' Touring  BMW K1200S when I fell off on a diesel spillage near Etaples in France.   There was only a slight scuffing to one seam, but they did suck up the diesel like a sponge.  By the time I was back at the shop and back on my own GS it was too late for any detergent to remove the stain. I needed a new pair of bike jeans and as I am once again suffering myself to lose weight with Slimming World, I didn't want to spend too much. My budget was pretty low! I have a pair of black Kevlar lined cargo trousers but they have shrunk a little in the wash. Really.  And I have replaced the metal button already. So a quick search on eBay revealed Oggie76 .  I bought a pair (£39.95) and they arrived in two days. Just in time for British Bike Night . They fitted rather well. Included in the price are hip and knee armour pads that fit into pockets stitched into the jeans.  The Kevlar covers the arse section, down the thigh and around the knee area. The stitching on the seams looks pretty strong too.  Of course, you will only know how good they are when you slide down the road on your butt.   The only bugbear for me, and I have emailed and told them,  is that there is only one belt loop at the back in the middle....
