On the Road Again!

On the road only 15 minutes later than planned at 1015.. The satnav said a little under 3 hours to do the journey. We knew with a stop that this would be a little longer. Going was good except for two sets of roadworks on the A12 and the winding roads once we went off the A140. We did have a stop at Thurrock Services for Reggie's comfort break and to get some lunch for us, sandwiches from Greggs, and a coffee. It rained most of the way up. There was an accident on the A14. From the damage to the car and the ripped up vegetation on the central reservation it looked as through there had been a 💥! The roads between the A140 and the CL  went through villages with lots of standing water and huge floods.  Nothing too serious though. We arrived on site about 2.35pm and setup the ramps and EHU. Time for tea and a mince pie whilst I set up the TV.  Dinner tonight will be a couple of ready meals in the microwave. Tomorrow we go a few miles to visit Claire's sister. ...

Tuesday As expected the weather was terrible from the moment we set off. Our mood was one of optimism that no matter what, we'd enjoy the trip. Even a prang that broke the left mirror couldn't ruin the "midweekend" entirely. It looks as though we will need to splash the cash... How about a Just Giving appeal? The Ohrex (the satnav) decided to avoid the Dartford Crossing and go what I always think is the long way around the M25 via Gatwick and Heathrow airports. It saves us the £2.50 toll and maybe a lot of sitting in traffic. We were on the road early, for us 9am is early. I had set a departure time of 8.30am but that was simply to get us moving. After the heavy rain there was a lane near Ashford and another near Maidstone that had the hard shoulder (emergency lane) flooded. later I read on Google that the flood near Ashford had spread across the entire three lane highway.  We were making good time at our regular 55mph on the GPS driven HUD (Heads Up Display) and stop...

"Suffolk Off!" has come about as Claire wants to visit her sister and take the Christmas presents up to her and do the exchange. She also wants to see their new house that they moved into in May or thereabouts. We have been a few times and I expect as well as a visit we can fit in some scenic tourist stuff.   Our first stop will be at the Sibton White Horse, it's a pub and a Caravan Club CL. I have booked us in there for one night with hard standing and EHU.  I also booked a table for two that evening at 7.15pm to save us cooking. There is no way I want to be on grass in the British weather in December. The second night isn't that far away, and we will stay overnight at the Waterpump CL. We did stay there before and it's a really nice spot.  The nearby pub has also re-opened after Covid caused so many problems. So that might be an option. I suppose it depends on whether we get lunch!
