Easter Weekend

Image
The last chance I will get to see Latics this season happens to be away at Colchester United.  I have been before on the bike(s) but this time as the game is a 3pm kick-off on Good Friday, I had a look for a camping site or club certificated location/site. Claire and I went a few years ago and we visited Beth Chatto's gardens nearby and then attended le foot. Who says men can't wear pink? What jumped out was the Colchester Country Park site.  I checked on Google Maps and it shows a walking distance of over an hour and driving of a mere 11 minutes.   Before booking either the game or the site, I dropped them an email to see if they had a recommended taxi firm. Sites often have a taxi firm they are happy with. Never having ever used an Uber I like someone that is "known". Although Uber might be a consideration.... The lady at the site came back and suggested two they use, along with their phone numbers. So I booked the seat in the ground.  The last few times we ha...

Looking back: April 2003

Image
Not long before I started writing a blog and then transferring the content over here to Blogger. I had only recently bought my R1150GS.  It came with the BMW system panniers but with no top box. That was remedied with a Givi plate and utilising the Givi E45 topbox that I had for over a decade by them (I still have it!). The Easter 2003 trip was organised for the Suzuki Owners Club, primarily for everyone in the club as well as friends Graham and Sarah Walker. The take up was very small.  People claim there was "nothing ever organised" but when there was they were pretty much absent.  On the way Claire and I stopped in Veurne near the Belgian coast and managed to park up alongside another Manadarin GS! Also with UK plates. Most of the participants had booked into the Old Tom B&B and restaurant in the main market square in Ypres. The idea was to get there on Good Friday.  Have two days touring and visiting the battlefields and then go home on Bank Holiday Monday. P...

Countdown to Easter

Image
The countdown to Easter has begun.  Not because I am religious of anything like that, but because as of April 1st 2021 I am on holiday/vacation/staycation.  My term-time only contract with Islington means that come 4pm on Wednesday, this week, I am not working until April 19th at 8am. What to do with all the glorious time off.  No chance of a lie-in with a dog, Reggie, that barks and cries to go out at around 6am every morning.  Sometimes I get up and sometimes Claire gets up. Either way there's not much opportunity to catch up on sleep. So where to go? What to do?  I intend to get the Rocket MoT'd and taxed for this year.   I intend to get the Kettle "Suzi Triplo" out a few days for a ride and to start with the elbow grease and solvol to get the rust off the rear end.  I may even fit new indicators. We are still under lockdown over the holiday weekend and although there were some relaxations from today in England, it looks like another Easter whe...
