New Flickr Account

Image
I have outlived my old Flickr account and so I have started a new one. I have storage for 1000 pictures and that should see me through my ownership of Vera Strom.  I have started off with a few photos and was surprised that I have so few, then again, I've not really been anywhere! At the moment Vera is somewhere in the photos posted, but this will change as I get to travel again. It will morph into Travels with Vera ! Drop in a have a look at the photographic genius that is me!   😂 Anthony is my middle name BTW! https://www.flickr.com/photos/veravstromman/

I had a reminder today that my Flickr Pro account was up for renewal on 5th January. I decided that since the original owners sold out that the prices goes up every year.  I don't use Flickr to store photos. As they store your photo and reduce the quality and rename it to their own specification you would be raving mad to use it as a storage location.  All mine are stored on a removeable hard drive and have been since 2009.  I will download what I have on Flickr and store that away as well. It's not worth spending £56.99 simply to share photos with like minded people. Basically another great idea has been sold to a company that wants to extract as much money as possible with the lowest amount of effort put in to keep the product up to date. The Android app is poor and hasn't kept up with the normal desktop version. So it's goodbye to Flickr.  What it does mean is that any photos I have shared to Blogger from Flickr using the "url" or "embed" function...

My Kettle Flickr Album

Image
Considering I have owned the Kettle since 1984 I haven't amassed many photos. Correction. I haven't kept many photos.  In deepest Austria For many years in those pioneer days in the mid-20th century before the internet and digital technology, I used  Zenit and then Chinon SLR film cameras. From my Dad I inherited the use of colour slide film (Kodachrome) rather than negative print film (Kodacolor). These were stored rather cleverly in the dry garage in Flitwick. Sadly, one day there was a flood and around 20 years worth were destroyed.  That included many of this bike, plus all of the bikes from about 1979 to 1990. They ended up in landfill. In years to come, they might get dug up by archaeologists!!! What I have of the GT are here on Flickr. https://flic.kr/s/aHsmMLJnXY

AMRR 2019 - All over now

Image
I was up at 8am. The local Royal British Legion Riders group were meeting on the A2 at 8.30am. Too early for me. I was away about 9am after breakfast and although I had the dbpower booster with me it was unused. I did have to reset the TomTom as it had lost the connection to the phone and also to my LS2 headset. Once fixed I was away. The M20 to Maidstone then up to the M2 to stop in at the service station at Cobham to tank up. Another Rocket was there but we had a nod and he was gone.  The rest of the trip alternated between dull and heavy traffic dull. The ever lasting roadworks on the A14 seem to have taken many years. The Spanish seem to build hundred of miles of their motorways in a short time. Eventually I arrived at 1115am. It usually takes less than two hours even with the petrol stop. I signed in and then went for a coffee and a loo visit. Outside again it was time to do my walk  around the assembled bikes and looked to see how many Rockets were there. Quite a few the...

Wow!

Image
I took this photo about 8 years ago. I saw it very often around the area and it was parked up not far from home down by the Royal Military Canal. I uploaded to a few Flickr groups and amazingly it has over 10000 views. Who would have thought it? https://flic.kr/p/83fgMm

Assen 10 - Day 4

Day 4 is not quite over. We have just boarded the ferry for home after a palavver over changing our ticket. On P&O coming back a day early costs a ticket change cost plus additional fare amounting to £60. I kid you not. In the end we got it down to £29 but even that is a disgrace when the website return is £19! Maybe when I next travel I will remember this rip off? The problem was that Claire's hip wasn't causing the expected problems so we cancelled the night stay in Breda and had the run to Calais. We left the hotel around 9.45am and wasted a bit of time getting to the Motorway. We had Steve in tow until the motorway when he shot off. We stopped for petrol pretty quickly as I wanted to make sure that when we arrived at the badlands of the N49 between Antwerp and Brugge that we has loads. We made good time until I followed the overhead signs for Brugge. We had a tour of the Antwerp ring including three tunnels. The middle one carried a toll... So once you arrived at th...
