SP26 - Day 19

Today what should have been around a 240 kms drive in pretty much a straight line was far more complicated by TomTom.

Checking the route on Google Maps and on MyRouteApp was far more direct than the ridiculous roundabout route chosen by TomTom.

We did take a look at the Chateau at Chaumont sur Loire and they have motorhome parking in with the coaches.

And that was the problem.  There were six coaches and their passengers were queuing to get into the chateau gardens. We decided to crack on.

Chaumont was on the original route!

It was after here that things went wrong that also meant more miles and of course, more tolls on a variety of motorways.

We stopped for lunch on the A28 and then set off again. Their was a fenced dog area, but Reggie couldn't be less interested.

We arrived at the CCP aire at Bernay at 2.33pm. NO problems with the barrier this time.

The site is a former municipal campsite, but the facilities/sanitaires are locked up.

Many of the pitches are divided by hedges, and we chose one of them. To use the ehu we need to have the passenger (left) side of the van nearest the hookup tower.

Once again it got hotter when the sun came out.

On the way up it hovered around 22° for some time. Just about right!!!

Since arriving we have deployed the roll-out awning to give Reggie some shade, then rolled it in when the breeze started flapping it about...

I was hoping it would cool enough to see what charms the village. So far at nigh on 6.55pm it's not cooled much.

Snacks tonight:

Very beefy!!!

Dinner (or tea to my Northern chums) is hotdogs and some salad. Very elfy.

And so to tomorrow?  We have about 6 hours to get to Buchy and the vets for Reggie's worming.  The appointment is 4pm.  After that we will hot foot it to the CCP at Calais.  It's handy for the port and Eurotunnel.

Last weekend it was showing only 5 free spaces from 102. Tonight as I write there are 41 free.

I decided to book a space from 5pm. We won't be there then but at least it's not pot luck as all the others since Frias have been.

To be fair, the app does give an indication of the number of free pitches. It's not instantaneously updated, but gets there quite quickly.  It's easier to choose a backup where there plenty of options, as we found last night, but this area is less well populated with CCP's....

Where to go between Bernay and Buchy? Giverny? Monet's Garden. Even if we have a drive-by like Chaumont today, it will vary the route north-east and avoid Rouen!!
