Day 2 - Thursday
Pretty much stayed local. The weather was disappointing. Rather than sunny it was overcast most of the day.
We enjoyed doing nothing but reading and chilling out. Sometimes it's nice to do nothing.
Day 3 - Friday
Today we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast and catch up with our Kindles and emails.
Then around 1230 we set off for the Tor and into Glastonbury. The signpost in the site says 1.5 miles to the town centre.
It felt like much more as we tried to get Google Maps to guide us along the Glastonbury Way.
At one point being 3ft tall would have been perfect as right by a newish kissing-gate the brambles are hanging very low. It needs the rangers to sort this out.
Once Google Maps started working we seemed to be on a loop that came into the town and the A361 at the top of the high street.
We were faced with all manner of witchy shops and even what looked like a legal highs place.
We were following directions to King Arthur's Tomb. We needed a coffee and Reggie needed to be off-road. He'd been okay until the Glastonbury Way had met the roads.
The Hundred Monkeys restaurant was excellent. Brie and bacon toastie and a coffee.
I had developed a migraine. Of course my Migraleve tablets were in the van. Luckily Boots was still open and had the pink 🩷 ones I have. They seem to head off the worst of the flickering in my eyes and the headaches. Two of those and about 15 minutes later I was fine.
We had a corner table so that Reggie wouldn't get disturbed or disturb others! He was very good all day.
On the way back we checked out the Tomb. Picking our way past pavement artists and street tarot readers. The air filled with drummers.... There was even a discarded broken bodhrán by a rubbish bin.... not very earth friendly.
The tomb. In the back garden of St John the Baptist church. Not very exciting.
Back up the high street following signs to the Tor and then back to the site. This was shorter than the way we went and less on the road, more paths through woods and fields.
Google Maps showed we had done 3.5 miles in the end. Not far but it didn't take onto account the number of steep hills navigated! What goes up must come down though. The ups seemed far worse than the downs!
Once back we left Reggie in the van to have a rest. He's 13 and has a heart murmur, so we don't push him too hard.
We got ourselves a Magnum ice-cream and bought him a doggy ice-cream. Not having a hairy tongue like a cat, a dog is at a disadvantage when it comes to slurping rock hard ice-cream from a tub. I forked half of it into his bowl. It lasted a few seconds.
I rolled the awning out and we had a sit out until it got a bit chilly.
Tonight we have chilli for dinner.
What will tomorrow bring? We have to be off-site by 1130. We will probably go to Stourhead NT. It's not that far away and then head home. We should make it on the one tank of fuel.
