Conkers!

Such a shame that the fruit of the Horse Chestnut Tree is inedible for us. There are hundreds if not thousands that go to waste here every year. The Conker.

In the past, as kids, we collected them to string and use in a game of conkers. Using the conker to strike your opponents conker. Taking turns until on broke. The winner then moved onto play again.

It's seems that over the years it's a game that's fallen foul of "health and safety" as kids might get a rap on the knuckles from a badly or inaccurately aimed conker.

Although, sometimes there were the odd conker forehead interfaces.....

Around here there's a new tradition of collecting conkers and placing them on the bridge over the Royal Military Canal.

Sadly, they don't stay there long as the local yobs sweep them off into the canal.

Anyway. For a short time many people have some fun and enjoyment.
