Meldrews' - Wipers in September

It's been quite a while since the Meldrews' had a trip away, just a weekend across in France or Belgium.

We (The Royal We?) used to go to the Bikers Loft. I only actually went the once as it seemed to clash with other commitments. That was on the Rocket and back in 2015!  The others in our informal group that we call the Meldrews' have been more often.

You can read about my trip to the Loft here.

So when one of the members suggested we have another look at a weekend away I didn't get to involved as the first two weeks in September I am away with Claire and the dog in France in the motorhome.

I gave some dates when I am not away or at football.  The weekend 22nd to 24th September popped out at me.  It's the North London Derby at the Emirates, but we have already agreed that it will be one of Phil's games so I am free. I like the idea of being well away as I would want to watch and I prefer to wait until I know the score. Yes. Live football sometimes sucks!

Over the years we have been to Ypres, or Wipers as the British and Commonwealth troops called it when they were on the Salient quite a few times. I think the first time was back in 2003 to stay. We stayed at the Old Tom B&B in the main Market Square.

At the time of writing there are currently three of us going by motorcycle! We have two rooms, a double and a triple room reserved at the Hotel Gasthof 't Zweerd also in the Grote Markt. I think it may well be next door to Old Tom.

Our fellow Meldrew' Elaine has also booked a room but she will go in her car.  She hasn't ridden her bike since before Covid.  It would be nice for someone local to her in the Midlands to get it going for her.

So in all we have four people and seven beds booked.  If no more sign up, we can easily cancel the twin room and the three blokes can bunk in the triple together.

We were in Ypres last month as it fitted in with the trip to the vet in Bruges to get Reggie's worming pill done. We stayed at a campsite around 15 minutes from the Menin Gate.

So for now there's not much more to be said.  I will be going on the V-Strom I expect.
