Awaycation Tulips 3
As usual I have been refining the trip details long in advance. This means that some plans get cancelled and other replaced in their place.
I had thought we might take Reggie with us, but he is getting old and the thought of him in the back of the car, plus the logistics of taking all his gear with us (food etc) is too much for a dog that will be eleven and a half years old. It also means that the costs associated with the pet passport are saved too.
On top of that he is not good in hotels as he is awake all night with every footstep in the hallways. As the kennels we have used, and that the seems to like, has closed down, we need to look for a new one. Better he stay in one rather than travel.
I have changed the hotel we are going to stay in to one that is nearer the Keukenhof and also changed the dates to go a few days later. Not only did that open up a load more hotels but is also cheaper than the week before!
So at the moment we are booked for four nights in the Hotel Royal in Noordwijk. It's a base that's all. It has parking and breakfast is included. It's not quite on the sea but not that far away.
We can drive up there in a day and back the same day. It will be a longish day each way but the car is comfortable enough!
Looking on Google Maps a more meandering route across Zeeland is only about 215 miles from Calais Eurotunnel Arrivals on the Blvd de France in Coquelles.
This route involves the West Schelde Tunnel with a €5 toll for a car. We did this route before and it was (I think) only €2 for a motorcycle and we didn't have any change!
It will be nice to meander that way rather than the slightly longer all motorway routes. If the weather is good it will be a nice run across the islands of Zeeland.
As the car has its own navigation system we'll have to check that it works abroad. I will of course take the TomTom just in case!
Of course, another reason for not taking Reggie is that he eats raw food from an English producer. Thanks to Brexit we aren't allowed to export good quality meat into the EU! Nor even in a sandwich!
