Vauxhall Intellilink

Claire's 2016 Corsa has the bells and whistles that my Insignia lacks and I guess that is part of the evolution of small cars and their electronics.

As well as Bluetooth connection to the phone to provide music it also acts as a satellite navigation.  No one mentioned this aspect when she bought the car new and we had no idea. Oddly it needs the phone to be connected by wire to work.

So after buying a new Samsung A20e phone at the weekend we sat in the car today to get it to work.  

For some reason Google Maps wouldn't work. More I suspect that Google is after a few more pounds/dollars in their bank account. They have already killed off a few mapping software companies by blocking access to the full maps.

So I installed Waze. It immediately connected to the car's screen and we could map from the phone and also from the car itself and even using voice commands.  A success all round. A few test journeys and it worked every time.  

What a pig it is to get working. Thought we'd cracked it. Next time in the car and nothing works!!

If anyone has any suggestions, then let me know.  

Update 3/2/21

Had another go. It seems for it to work the phone needs to be connected by Bluetooth to the car. Then when the wire goes in up pops a message on the car screen to suggest switching away from Bluetooth to the USB cable. Do this a few times and it finally connects. Once connected the destination can be entered on the car's screen. Set off for Caffyns to take my car for servicing.

Now all we need to do is work out why it dims the radio/music to issue voice commands but is actually silent....!!

Update 3/2/21 - Part Two

Later the same day.......

The magic of "computers" eh?  Plugged in this afternoon to go and collect my car from the dealers. Set the destination.  A voice worked!  Did nothing different to any other day!

Maybe it will work all the time from now on. Or is that being too trusting of technology?
