Oldham Athletic vs Dorking Wanderers
I set off from home to meet my brother at our Aunt's house so we could park one car. It was his turn to drive.
We made good progress from Maidstone to Dorking. The football club is right by the town centre.
Parking was easy enough although we had to look for long stay as those nearer the shops were limited to a max of three hours.
£4.40 later we had four hours parking secured and we set off to the Wimpy.
Wimpy was the first burger 🍔 restaurant in the UK way back in the 60's. They have mostly disappeared, but Dorking has one.
It was full. Plus there there were people waiting. A few doors down was a fish and chip shop with seating. We went in and as it was still lashing with rain we ate in.
Saveloy and chips from the Seniors Menu later we set off for the ground. It was getting on for 2pm. Most of the customers were also Oldham supporters.
Luckily we arrived during a dry spell and managed to get in the seating near the halfway line. Frank Rothwell arrived and we gave him cheer. This man has brought a new positive vibe to the club after successive charlatans and carpetbaggers.
We kicked off late. There was a problem with the side of one of the goal nets. So we were six minutes late.
It looked like it was going to be déja-vu when Dorking scored on 8 minutes.
Then the fight back began. Dorking have a 3G artificial grass pitch and despite the rain it was holding up well.
With two up front things changed. Mike Fondop scored twice, the second a goal of the season contender. I hope I can find a video of it.
Then it all became a dream. In the three previous games this season I hadn't seen a goal scored by Latics
Today I saw 5. Yes 5.
The drive home was great. It rained. There was surface water on the M25. Enough to tug at the steering when driving. Didn't stop other drivers flying past.
So another great day on the road with Latics.
