Dog Day Thursday

Thursday is an early start to get over to Newington to get the dogs out and get them fed.

Today I was left to my own devices with six dogs to feed, exercise and socialise.

Although chilly to start with it warmed up as the sun came out. After feeding them one by one in the barn, I had them all in the garden.

A chance to sit and take the sun. All the time having one or two leaning on me and wanting attention.

The dogs are mostly muzzled as the younger dogs are very food oriented and can get a bit possessive.

The older dogs, Miller and Cider, are permanent residents and are calmer. They avoided getting the photos again today. Preferring to go indoors to lie down.

The four younger dogs do feature. Sadly Sam and Tyrone have been returned. The excuses seemed total bullshit to me. Both are young dogs and want attention.

After a lot of running about with soft toys Sam for the first time had a lie down.

Tyrone on the other hand is always on the go.

They need to take their lead from Paul. Once he has eaten he had a nap in the sun. When too hot he moved into the shade. He is wearing his coat as he is in poor shape after his release from his race owner. He is very thin.

Greyhounds have very little body fat and short hair, they get cold easily.

I was relieved by another volunteer about 11am. I had a good sit in the sun whilst I waited

Closing my eyes simply had the dogs more interested!

Another Thursday morning with Kent Greyhound Rescue. There are many dogs looking for a new home. Check the website.
