Six Year Itch?
I think for most men it is seven years and it's about replacing the woman in your life. I think I have the six-year itch and it is looking at other bikes and thinking that maybe it is time to move on from the Rocket.
Then I ride it and all those thoughts simply disappear. I have filled in the form online at Laguna Triumph to get an idea what it is worth. I was honest about condition and the reason for one of the problems. Them.
Since they fitted the new front tyre back in March 2019 I have been riding with a bolt missing from the right fork leg. It can be seen in the photo in this blog. When the mechanic at Laguna Triumph fitted the new front tyre they sheered the head off the bolt. Instead of fixing it they suggested I might like to pay for it to be done and if they couldn't do it they priced up a new fork leg lower. I said as the bike had a full service history with them and I didn't expect to pay for that sort of thing.
As I have only just completed 10000 miles I have been having the annual service. With Covid and no real chance to ride the bike for months and months on end it was last done on October 19th 2019.
When we were out today for one of our local "staycation" trips with the dog I saw a few bikes as I was waiting to get on the platform at Dungeness to get along to the garden to find a table.
One was a fully loaded Honda VFR1200 Crosstourer with a UK 16 plate on it. It was black with full box and pannier luggage. Two-up it looked and sounded really good.
Oddly there is one like it in Kent Motorcycles, red and black. Might take a look at it on Sunday if we go there for Meldrews! It looks the business on the website but is it really a "downsize"? Most things after a Rocket are!
Another was a KTM with a loud exhaust fitted. Can't say what it was, but it was orange and white and LOUD!
On top of that my friend and fellow Meldrew, Cal, has sold his BMW F800 and just bought a Honda Forza 350 scooter. He is in his early-70's and decided to make the change now before he gets too old to ride. He gets it at the end of the month.
I guess that had started to put that itch in my head. Damn it. I am only 65! I still have the Kettle "Suzi Triplo" to ride about locally and plan trips for! Trips with Covid and all that I'll probably never get to do.
I'm sure the itch will be scratched if and when I hear back from the form!
