Bloody Taps and Vacation Dates!!!
These are the offending taps.
In the days since the hab check and the leaks being detected I have been on the internet looking for a Cathargo Malibu dealer to get replacements.
ARC that did the hab check were onto it, and I tried a number of Cathargo dealers across the country.
Our own dealer, Choose Leisure, was able to order the taps but they would have to come from Germany. The lead time would be 6 to 8 weeks. However, the couldn't fit them as the workshop was booked out until July!
We are, or rather were, booked on the ferry to Spain in 9 weeks and two days from today.
I posted on the Malibu Van owners group on Facebook and got a couple of recommendations. As this was over the weekend I didn't expect anyone to get back until today.
Both of them are Malibu dealers. One hasn't replied yet. It's Monday and almost 7pm. Not even the blanket "got your email" reply.
The other, "Go European", very quick this morning. They asked for photos of the offending taps, and the VIN number. I sent that and asked if they could do the job. They said they were only doing warranty work. Not heard about the taps yet.
I thought it would be quicker to order the parts and have a trip to Germany in the car and collect them instead of waiting for the "system" to deliver them to Choose! I even registered with Malibu in Germany. They aren't that helpful as they just say contact your selling dealer ..
We then decided with the uncertainty, that we should try and delay the trip.
It was easy enough to change the Brittany Ferries crossing on the app. I had to scroll across the dates until I found a crossing from Plymouth to Santander that had pet friendly cabins. I was surprised to get one in 12 weeks from now. I booked that and it cost £20.
The overnight campsite before the ferry was easy and an email explaining the predicament was met sympathetically and that was changed. By then we shouldn't need ehu.
The list of other things to change is a pain. I emailed the Caravan Club to see about changing the Oyambre two night stay.
Then there is Reggie's AHC to change. It has to be collected upto ten days before travel. So as Ahconline is all online I had to email them.
That leaves Irish Ferries for the return crossing. Their app claims to allow changes but on the app and website on the laptop that doesn't work. You can change the vehicle and passengers but not the crossing. So another email!!!
After hours of stress over the long lead times for the taps from Germany, I got an email from ARC with an estimate for the job.... Gulp. We knew the taps weren't cheap.
I went back and asked when they can do it. The 23rd.... of March! A week from now.
Aaaarrgghhh!!!!
Of course I said yes.
