Looking at Chaddy

When I was a baby we moved from London where my Dad's family came from, to Oldham. Actually to Chadderton which at the time was a separate borough.

Oldham is where my Mum came from. She left to train as a nurse at Queen Mary Hospital in Portsmouth.

It is where she met my Dad who was in the Navy out of Portsmouth.

I was born in St Thomas' Hospital in 1955. For a short time we lived in a house owned by my Grandfather's sister near to the Elephant and Castle. We moved to Chadderton when I was about 12 months old.

I had been trying to locate our first house for a few years. Mum wasn't much help when looking at maps.

I contacted the Oldham History Society and gave them what I knew. Which wasn't much. A nice lady came back to me and pointed me to the Ordnance Survey maps, held in a National Library of Scotland.

There I could see "Throstle Walk" on the map reference they sent. It's right at the bottom of the sheet. It's also difficult to make out the individual buildings.

Since the advent of social media, and Facebook, there are groups that may be useful.

I'll post on an Oldham group and see.
