Reggie's Pet Insurance
Wow. It's renewal time. The renewal from MoreThan arrived today. Again WOW!!!
Last year we paid £516.84 over the year. When he ate the rat poison the total bill came to £828. Meaning that from our joint bank account and my credit card we had spaffed away £1344 for his treatment and cover.
After the months and months of waiting to see if they would pay the claim, MoreThan finally coughed up £640 of the £828, due to policy excess and a percentage they keep from the vet's bills!
At the end of the day like most insurance. It's a fcuking rip off.
If you are lucky and the bill is really high it probably pays. But it's insurance isn't it. Youy pay in the hope that if something goes wrong then you are protected, to some extent. In the end having insurance actually cost me/us £704 for the year 2025.
I had already decided once they settled that I would start to look elsewhere. Waiting 5 months for any contact about the claim, that was sent to them by the vet with all the technical mumbo-jumbo, before paying up meant I was already pissed.
The renewal with MoreThan will be £903.72...... Are they smoking crack at MoreThan? Maybe they don't want the business?
So I looked on comparethemarket.com for options again. This was way back on October when I first typed it in to the site and it remembered when I logged in. I have both the bikes insured through this comparison site.
Tesco, who we used to be with until about three years ago, was £329.76 with 12 monthly payments. ComparetheMarket gives you a range of options. MoreThan wasn't one of them like it was a few years ago! The cover is the same lever as we have been getting. Also when I was transferred to Tesco Finance website I had to login with my Tesco login (I bank with them!) I got a further 10% discount that brought it down to figure above!
Reggie is 15yo (plus a few months) and so the risk is going to be much higher than for a younger dog but at least he is covered.
It's the peace of mind as much as anything that I think is why we waste money. We have had Reggie 11 years and needed the vet three times. Only twice have we had to claim on the insurance.
Fingers crossed for the next 12 months?
