Run 50 Miles for Prostate Cancer Research October 2025

I have signed up again to fundraise for Prostate Cancer again.

This time to run/walk 50 miles in October.  For me it will be walk.

I was then sent this email:

Hi Paul Devall,

My name is Maurice Blake and I’m a proud Ambassador at Prostate Cancer Research. I want to share a bit about my prostate cancer journey and why I’m fighting for better prostate cancer care.    

After being on active surveillance for a period of 12 months, my MRI scan showed that the cancer had increased in size. I was going to need another biopsy......I really didn't want another biopsy!!!  

There really needs to be a better alternative to the current procedure for assessing cancers within the prostate. A less intrusive method. One that doesn't add to the trauma of the diagnosis. 

That’s why investing in research is so important.   

After diagnosis, going away and trying to educate yourself about prostate cancer and treatments via the internet can take you down a rabbit hole! It can take you along the wrong path if you're not careful.  We want to be kept informed of all our results and tests, whether positive or negative. This is crucial to our mental health. 

Unfortunately, the levels of care and expertise vary immensely around the country, and it has become a postcode lottery how a prostate cancer diagnosis and patient's journey will pan out. 

I know the fundraising you are doing as part of the Run 50 Miles in October will help fund research into crucial breakthroughs that can save lives. I’m grateful for all you’re doing.

Roadtest - Suzuki TU250X

(Originally written and published on the old Geocities hosted SOC website in 1997)   With the UK Government thinking of ways to force commuters onto public transport on the one hand, soaking the motorist with the other hand - road tolls, commuting into City tolls, increased in Vehicle Excise Duty on top of another hike in petrol tax, the motorcycle couldn't be better placed to provide personal transport when you want it, in a more 'environmentally friendly' way. So when I was offered the latest addition to the Suzuki commuter range, the TU250X, I was actually quite looking forward to trying a bike that might fit the bill for the beleaguered commuter of the future.
