Super Oldham!
After three post season games Oldham have been promoted back to the EFL after three years stuck in the 5th tier.
I was able to get a ticket for the Wembley Stadium.
What a day.
I'd been ill with a UTI for nearly three weeks and so it was touch and go whether I could actually go. I'd finished a second round of antibiotics on the Thursday before. Had 6 hours in hospital on Friday!!
But who could miss the first Wembley visit for 30 plus years! Not me.
We took the motorhome to a Caravan Club site at Denham on Saturday for two nights. It's one stop from Denham to Wembley Stadium Station. I cabbed it both ways though. The walk was about 30 minutes. But after the weeks leading up I didn't want to risk it.
The railway was pretty efficient and £6.50 return.
Once at the station it was follow signs to the Yellow Zone. I'd printed my ticket as I have little faith in the phone or the Internet working when needed!
Bags checked. I have my Adidas man bag, and off the buy something to eat and drink. Then find my seat.
I had two bottles of water and a Pepsi diet cola. Plus the worst sausage roll ever made.
The game was a game for the neutrals. Oldham conceding early in the first half of normal and extra time. The opener was actually an own goal...
To score twice in a minute in extra time was mind blowing!!!
After the presentations I left and joined the masses heading for the station. Getting in the queue didn't help and started to feel hot, nauseous and could barely shuffle. I called the police medic over and they tended to me. They already had a guy with a heart attack to assist. My BP had dropped (again) and I was there for 25 minutes before it was back to normal and they let me go. I was feeling much better when I got back to Claire at the campervan.
Maybe it was foolish to have gone. But it was still a great day.
Oldham in the blood. Thanks Mum.
