A ride to London

With a few strikes on the railways and possible engineering works I decided to ride Vera up to London for the Arsenal match against Brighton and Hove Albion.

The best part of the day was the ride home!  Arsenal decided that maybe with only three games left in the season, and this being the third from last, that maybe the beach beckoned and they would go through the motions.  To say losing 0-3 at home was a disgrace is an understatement!

Anyway, enough of that. The ride up went well enough. Most of the road works on the northbound M20 had been dispensed with except for a small bit at east end where the movable barrier is being parked in time for the bank holiday this weekend!

There was an accident or something before the Blackwall Tunnel and we had to go through under the Thames at walking pace. After that Hackey was awful. The smell of marijuana in the air overwhelmed the smell od fumes from the buses and cars..... Not that the anti-motorised transport Mayor, Sadiq Khan, would know as sitting in his 5-litre armoured Range Rover means he is out of touch with the real world.

I parked up in St Joan of Arc Church as I used to do all the time in the past. This is probably the first time since before I retired, and COVID!

After the game I took my time getting back there to let some of the traffic subside. Traffic in London is appallingly slow and the roads in general are like tank training grounds.  All that ULEZ and Congestion Charging money certainly doesn't find its way into any road repairs.  Maybe the Mayor's Range Rover doesn't feel all the potholes?

I fuelled up at the Sainsbury's near the O2 Arena (aka the Millenium Dome) for 12.2p a litre less than at home!  So some good came of the day.

I was home quite reasonably.  Amazed that cruising at an indicated 70mph how many cars overtake like F1 cars on the M20....

So when am I out next?
