NO13 - Day 2 - Paul's View

Up at 0800 with coffee from our steward for the day. It seemed a little early for a holiday but there is so much to do!

The night was a bit of getting used to the sound of the air con and also sleeping in different beds. We chose twin beds instead of a double. I don't think either of us slept too well.

Of course at sea there is no phone signal so blogging isn't real time. Need to find a wifi signal in the first port of call. Apparently according to Tripadvisor they have a McDonalds!

And so to breakfast. Once again in the Pole to Pole Restaurant, and once again restrained. You could easily put on a stone a day with the amount of food that can be consumed. Slimming World it ain't!

At 0945 we had the welcome talk and some information on the excursions. We have two and they are Friday and Saturday in Stavanger and Jondal.

One small worry was that the Jondal trip to the glacier was cancelled. Luckily there are two and it was the hike and not the panoramic one that was chopped. Apparently too few wanted to go! We checked with the tour office before breakfast!

Ours is on and not "strenuous" as it says on the ticket but "easy". With Claire's dodgy foot we don't do anything she will be uncomfortable doing. It's a holiday not a torture.

After the welcome talk we got the cameras from the cabin and had a coffee right aft on the terrace, then a few laps of the upper deck. Over the next week we need to do this more often to burn off the calories we aren't used to.

We played the first (and only) round of the Devall mini-golf challenge. The dolphin hole was the downfall and it ended 19 to 25 shots (for six holes) taken with me the victor. Claire hadn't played before and I am sure any advantage of previous rounds of crazy golf will soon become immaterial.

And soon it will be lunch....

One of the TV channels in the room shows where the ship is, GPS location, speed and course.

The time on board is on UK time although we have set our watches forward an hour as instructed. Well, some have. My Waveceptor resists all attempts at time zone changes and I forgot the manual!!

Claire decided we should have lunch outside on the Verandah Deck. The sun had gone in and it was cold. We managed to last as long as it took to eat a salad and some grilled sardines.

Dessert was taken inside. So with afternoon tea not for a few hours we adjourned to our cabin for extra coats and then another couple of laps of the promenade deck.

The corridor by our cabin. Empty at last.

Out for a few laps of the promenade deck. And then an ice-cream as a reward!

After ice-cream it's time to get something to read and maybe a siesta before the next round of eating at 4.15pm, and afternoon tea.

Restrained again. What is wrong with us. After tea we needed to have a siesta before getting ready for the evening.

Tonight is a formal dress evening from 6pm onwards with cocktails with the ship's Captain at 6.15pm.

Claire in one if her evening dresses and me in my new suit. With a bow tie I always look like a doorman or bouncer. So one on the reasons for a blue suit.

Sadly I have a face for radio.

Dinner was once again in Pole to Pole. Our wine from last night was there, gone are the days of demolishing one or more bottles between us!

Once again we sat on a table with two other couples and it was after 10pm when we finally finished chatting over coffee. You meet some very nice people over a meal and the conversation is always stimulating and different.

Everyone went their own way and we made a comfort break in the cabin before going to the Britannia Lounge for the jazz evening with a very talented clarinetist Kenny Martyn.

Then off to bed. We need to be ready for our excursion at 9am tomorrow.
