NO13 - Day 3 - Paul's View - Stavanger

Arrived in Stavanger just as we were getting up. We should have thought about it and set the alarm for a bit earlier.

However, the first pix are from the cabin window!! Sadly not good quality but from my phone....

Between our arrival and coming out from breakfast the Cunard Liner "Queen Elizabeth" had arrived across the port from us. More apartment block than ship!!

Our excursion today is to Flor & Fjære garden.

To be honest I have never been a fan of the coach party. For many years I have had photos and trips ruined by the coach hordes, from Morocco to Austria!!

I'll post more pictures when the wifi becomes available.

The gardens are stunning. A long cold winter had held back planting but to think that tropical and desert plants can exist in Norway is amazing.

From an area of barren rock that no one valued in 1965 the owners have worked to make a tropical paradise.

Most of the trips are for the restaurant and gardens for lunch and dinner. And the cruise ship trips only come in the morning and not too many people at a time.

On our return to Stavanger we had lunch and then went ashore again, primarily to see the old town of white wooden houses built in the 18th Century. We also bought a couple of postcards to send home. If you get one. Treasure it. The cards and postage came to 20kr each. There are just under 9kr to £1! Gulp.

When we got back to the ship the cabin smelled of fumes and although had been a faint whiff, this was much worse. We reported it to reception and whilst we were at tea they must have checked it out as we were offered a new cabin.

And that's how we got moved up to deck 9. We now have deck outside rather than a sea view but the cabin is slightly bigger. Although not overly so.

We missed cocktails as we were moving and had dinner later meaning we were just in time to get on deck for the sail-away. We were out quite a time and once again decided to swerve the jazz. The singer tonight was Elaine Delmar. I actually know the name but she was too deep voice and dooby-dooby for me.

We retired to 2120 after checking out the photos taken on the formal night. And buying one where I don't look like The Management.

Bed. Jondal tomorrow and a later muster for us with an 0945 time slot for our coach up the glacier!

Thank you, good night and God bless.
