Amazingly given that Latics are 23rd in League Two they pulled off the impossible and beat Sunderland, a top League One and what you might call a "slumbering giant" in this mickey mouse cup.
Last year in the Round of 32 (?) the same clubs played at Boundary Park and it was an away win for Sunderland by 2-1.
Sunderland are another former Premier League club currently in the doldrums and in the lower divisions. They have a massive "Stadium of Light" to play their games in. Even in league One they have an average attendance of over 30000 week in week out.
On the contrary, Oldham have an average of just 4300 over the last five years!
