In 2014 most of Europe will be remembering the start of the First World War. Even the British Government has recognised the importance of the Centenary.
The UK got involved on August 4th 1914, when the King made the formal announcement that Great Britain was at war with Germany.
It had all kicked off earlier in the summer with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife in Sarajevo by Bosnian Serbs on June 28th 1914.
I had hoped that my trip will be on July 16th 2014; the 98th anniversary of my Grandfather Charles' cousin William dying of his wounds on the Somme, at the dressing station at Corbie.
The problem is that it's difficult to get time off in the last week of the school term. So, it might have to be delayed until the weekend!!!
The date has slipped to the weekend of 19th and 20th July.
I am hoping that Claire will come with me on the Triumph and that in future years that the rest of our small family will continue to make the trip across to honour our relative.
Lest we forget.
